Defense MindedINFO: Nico, a rugged defender of uncommon breed, was brought to Alto da Glória by Coritiba. Initially viewed with suspicion by the fans, he won everyone's trust in less than a month at the club thanks to his playing style. His main function was to prevent any dangerous plays in his area. Virile, yet never unfair. Possessing great jumping ability, he had an extraordinary power of anticipation, giving no respite to opposing forwards. He was a starter for Coritiba for 10 years, leaving his mark on great achievements in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
He was a fast, gifted, and very tenacious and vigorous defender, yet loyal. So much so that he won the Belfort Duarte award for playing for ten years without being sent off once.
Passionate Coritiba fans began calling him the "Deus da Raça", a defender respected by the attackers. Although his playing style was somewhat rough, he was always loyal. A player who knew how to defend like few others, and due to his qualities, he was called up on several occasions for the Paraná State Selection, being a starter for our team.
For a defender, it can be said that his stature was short, but he made up for it with extraordinary jumping ability; he was practically invincible in the air. On the ground, he was precise, and the attacker rarely got past him.
Another detail that stood out about Nico was his anticipation; he predicted the play and always arrived first. In short, a great defender, a complete defender. A correct professional, fulfilling his duties and carrying out the mission of clearing his area perfectly.
