Attack-MindedINFO: Neco, the first great idol of Corinthians, stood out for his versatility, fighting spirit, and great finishing ability. He didn't have a fixed position, playing in various roles in attack and midfield.
Playing Style and Positions
Versatility: Neco could play as a left winger, center forward, and midfielder. This adaptability made him a fundamental piece in different tactical schemes of the time.
Fighting Spirit and Willpower: He was described as an authentic representative of the fans on the field, playing with great fighting spirit and defending and attacking with great willpower.
Finishing Power: Despite being a midfielder/forward, Neco had an impressive ability to score goals. He is the fourth highest scorer in the club's history, with 228 goals in 296 official matches. He was the top scorer in the Campeonato Paulista in 1914 and 1920.
Leadership and Corinthian Spirit: Beyond his technical skills, Neco was a born leader and "Corinthianism incarnate." He was the personification of the club's fighting spirit, which made him the first great popular idol of Brazilian football and the only Corinthians player to have a bust at Parque São Jorge while still active, in 1929.
Neco was a complete player for his time, combining technical skill and a nose for goal with a dedication and grit that connected him directly to the working-class and combative identity of Corinthians.
