A player whose main characteristics were speed, a powerful shot, and good positioning on the field. Born in Maracanaú-CE, he arrived at Bahia in 1959 as a great revelation from Ceará Sporting, having been bought for Cr$ 600,000.00, and with his great performance during the 1959 Taça Brasil, his fame quickly spread throughout Brazil, attracting the attention of the big clubs in the south of the country. Flamengo quickly sent an emissary to Salvador to sign him, offering the sum of 1.2 million cruzeiros for the player plus the holding of two games in Salvador with the revenue going to the Bahia team. However, the president of Bahia at the time, Osório Vilas Boas, said that he would not sell the player even for 5 million.

Alencar arrived at Bahia in the year they won their first Brazilian Championship. Forming a great attacking trio alongside Léo, Marito, and Biriba, Alencar scored the first goal in the history of the Brasileirão, in Bahia's victory over CSA.

The striker was fundamental in winning that title, scoring the decisive goal in the 3-1 victory in the grand final at the Maracanã against Santos.

In a brief but important spell at Bahia, where he earned the nickname "Pelé of Bahia," Alencar won, in addition to the 1959 Brazilian Championship, the state titles of 1959, 1960, and 1961.
