He was a player with "genius" and played with a lot of heart, with a never-give-up attitude. His main position was in attack, but he had to compete for space with world-class players like Didi during his time at Botafogo. Later, he excelled at Bahia, where he is considered one of the greatest players in the club's history. He was known for his ability to make outstanding plays and was fundamental to Bahia's title wins, such as the first Brazilian Championship in 1959, in which he participated in the final game against Santos. An elegant, skillful, and extremely classy player who made his mark at Bahia. Signed in early 1960, he was a "lucky charm," being the only player in the Bahia squad to play just one match during the 1959 Taça Brasil tournament, specifically the final against Santos-SP at the Maracanã on March 29, 1960. Mário was also part of the Bahia squad that toured Europe in 1960 and also participated in the New York International Tournament in 1964. Curiously, he was also the 1959 Bahia State Champion, even though he wasn't yet playing for Bahia at that time, because in one of those crazy twists of Bahian football, the final game that decided the championship only took place on March 26, 1961, that is, Bahia 1 x 1 Vitória. https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%C3%A1rio_de_Ara%C3%BAjo https://datafogo.blogspot.com/2023/01/o ... afogo.html https://obaheanahistoria.blogspot.com/s ... ra%C3%BAjo |
