INFO: He was an elegant and technical forward, who did not even bump into the defenders. He won the red-colored crowd in the second Gre-Nal when he scored four goals in a 6-2 win. He was a Pan-American champion in 1956, when the Brazilian team represented Brazil.
But Cerebral Larry, as he was called by the Colorado crowd, is not as well remembered for the ability to score as for the classic, refined style, rare among the center-backers of the season and any time. With another center forward, the Pernambucano Bodinho, Larry formed an infernal pair, capable of boards only comparable to those of the PELÉ and COUTINHO. In the 1955 Gaucho Championship, Larry scored 23 goals in just eighteen games. He was not the top scorer because Bodinho came to 25. Larry had so much morale with the fans that even losing the two penalties against Renner that took Inter out of the 1958 title race, he left the field applauded. Years later, when he left soccer, he was elected state deputy.
As a player, Larry won the Rio de Janeiro Gaucho Championship in 1955 and the 1961 International and the 1956 Pan-American Championship in Brazil, in addition to the titles won by Fluminense.
