[b]INFO:[/b] Acting as goalkeeper, Gainete began his career at Paula Ramos. In the early 1960s, he transferred to the Guarani of Bagé, going in 1962 to the International. He remained in the club until 1964, when, the following year, he played for Vasco da Gama, a club for which he won the Guanabara Cup.
In 1966, he returned to Internacional, where he played until 1972. In 1970, he became national record holder while remaining for 1202 minutes without conceding a goal. For the International, Gainete was three-time gaucho.
Between 1972 and 1974, he played for Atletico Paranaense, returning to Rio Grande do Sul in August 1974, where he played for the Campeonato Gaúcho by Atletico de Carazinho.
