In 1934, when he defended the Americano of Porto Alegre, he was called to the Brazilian national team that was in the World Cup in Italy. He was the first player of a gaucho team to have this honor. The Brazilian team in the Copa de 34 was disappointing: Seleção lost to Spain 3-1 in the first leg and then returned home.
