Skillful, he was a scorer capable of scoring with dribbles and precise ball touches. As a striker of the first great team formed by Vasco, Russinho was champion in 1929 and scored three goals in the historic final in which Vasco defeated America by 5-0 in the Laranjeiras. He was the top scorer of the Rio de Janeiro championship in 1929 and 1931 and the Brazilian national team player who played the first World Cup in 1930. Russinho achieved great popularity at that time and was voted the best player in Brazil in a contest promoted by a cigarette brand.
