INFO:Gallacher is a former winger and centre forward. His career began in 1983 at Dundee United, where he debuted in 1985. He played 188 matches and scored 39 goals for the Scottish team. He transferred to Coventry City on January 1990. He played there 115 games and scored 35 goals. On January 1993, he joined Blackburn Rovers, where he had his biggest success, winning the 1994-95 Premier League, even though he unfortunately missed that season due to a bad injury. In 1997, his main position was moved to centre forward and formed a great couple of strikers with Chris Sutton. In fact, Gallacher had his two most prolific seasons while playing in this position. Starting from 1998, his consistency drastically fell down and he was sold to Newcastle United in 1999. He played in total 151 games for Blackburn, scoring 52 goals. He retired in 2003 after playing als for Preston North End, Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield Town. He gained 53 caps for Scotland, scoring 9 goals and taking part to the 1998 FIFA World Cup.
Gallacher was a very fast player, gifted with good technique, great sense of goal and the ability to score from difficult positions. Thanks to his speed, he could be a danger for the defences, penetrating them from the flank to look either to score or deliver an assist. He acted also as additional midfielder when he tracked back to help defending and recovering balls. Mainly right-footed, he was also very accurate with the left. He was a decent header and when he played as centre forward he proved to be even more effective in that position thanks to his fineness in front of the goal. In the successful two-year period that led him to be called-up for the 1998 FIFA World Cup, he maybe was the most skillful and in best condition player in the Scottish squad.
