INFO:Vijayan is a former centre forward, who formed the deadliest attacking line in the history of India alongside Bhaichung Bhutia. Throughout his long career ─ which began in 1987 and ended in 2006 ─ he played for many teams, being very prolific in all of them: Kerala Police, Mohun Bagan, JCT, Kochin, East Bengal and Churchill Brothers. He scored 250 goals in league matches. India captain from 2000 to 2004, he scored 29 goals in 66 matches (40 in 79 considering also unofficial games). In 1999, he set the record of India's fastest international goal with a header after 12 seconds against Bhutan. He was named Indian player of the year in 1992, 1997 and 2000. He won the Arjuna Award in 2003.
Vijayan was a consistent striker, gifted with impeccable and dazzling skills as well as a highly aggressive playstyle. Always enthusiastic, he possessed athleticism, pace, and acceleration to unsettle the opposing defenders. Tall but slim, he was though strong enough. His tricky uncoordinate movements combined with quick changes of speed fooled his markers so that he was able to get space to deliver accurate passes to his teammates. In fact, he was known also for his deadly passing ability. Moreover, he could score from impossible angles. He was India's best free kick taker at the time and the finest user of the overhead kick in the country. In 2012, his style of play was praised by none other than Diego Maradona during a visit to India.
