INFO:Brahmanand is a former goalkeeper. He had an astonishing 21-year long career, retiring at 41 years old. He played mostly for Salgaocar from 1974 to 1991. Then he had spells at Churchill Brothers and Anderson Mariners. He won over 50 caps for India, captaining the side from 1983 to 1986. In this period he also had the best time of his career, winning two back-to-back Santosh Trophies with Goa state team in 1983 and 1984, maintaining a clean sheet of 576 minutes in the 1984 edition, which is still the Indian record. He received the Arjuna award in 1997. His career was later compared to Zoff's for longevity and high efficiency.
Regarded as one of India's greatest goalkeepers, Brahmanan was initially a striker but as soon as he decided that being between the posts was the perfect role for him, he didn't want to dribble his opponents anymore and instead became a skillful goalkeeper. So he quickly learned the correct technique of handling the ball, positioning and distribution. He impressed for his reflexes and elevation but he also showed leadership qualities, acting as a sweeper-goalkeeper. His abilities made him earn offers from India's biggest clubs Mohun Bagan and Mohammedan but he refused them to remain in his native state instead.
