Defence MindedINFO:Friedel was a goalkeeper, probably the best American ever and one of the most consistent in 2000s. His career started in 1995. After a wandering in several clubs including Galatasaray and Liverpool he eventually joined Blackburn Rovers in 2000 becoming immediately a regulart starter. He played for Rovers 358 matches in eight seasons and even scoring a goal. He then played for Aston Villa from 2008 to 2011, appearing 131 times. He retired in 2014 after three seasons at Tottenham Hotspur, playing 67 matches. He also capped 82 times for United States.
Friedel was an outstanding goalkeeper renowned for his incredible reflexes and consistency. Since when he joined Blackburn Rovers he rarely missed matches. From 2004 to 2012 he played every single Premier League match. Many Blackburn's fans consider him as the best goalkeeper ever in the history of the team. He was a strong goalkeeper who commanded the defence with authority and respect. Thanks to his height he could easily catch high balls without needing to jump much. He was everywhere thanks to his quickness inside the goal and his reflexes which made him incredibly effective also against shots from the distance. He was able in 1-on-1 duels even when he decided to go outside the area and that happened quite a lot of time. However he had some positional problems with shots from nearer distances especially when the area was crowded because in those situations he often left some empty spaces leading the opponent to score with ease.
