INFO:
Slater is a former central, left side or defensive midfielder. His career began in 1982 in Australia. He transferred to Europe, playing some matches for Anderlecht in 1989-90. After a season, he joined Lens, where had his longest spell, playing 127 games and scoring 9 goals in four seasons. He played for Blackburn Rovres in 1994-95, giving a huge contribution in the Premier League win despite playing only half of the matches. He then played for West Ham United, Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers, before coming back to Australia, where he retired in 2001. He gained 44 caps for Australia, scoring once.
Gifted with outstanding speed, Slater wasn't easy to stop unless he was put down with a faul. Despite playing on the left side, he was mainly right-footed but accurate with the left as well. His dribbling was fast but not always accurate. He was a very able passer of the ball, capable to use well also the outside. In possession of great stamina, he never gave up for all 90 minutes and helped in both attack and defence. He was though more effective as offensive player, sometimes taking the ball in his own half and running forward with it.
