INFO:Van der Gouw is a former goalkeeper. He spent most of his career at Vitesse, playing 294 matches from 1988 to 1996. Then he joined Manchester United, where he was the second choice keeper during the "Red Devils" great period at the turn of the late 1990s and early 2000s, winning the 1998-99 UEFA Champions League other than some national titles. He played also for Go Ahead Eagles, West Ham United, Waalwijk and Apeldoorn, retiring in 2007.
Van der Gouw was a good goalkeeper. He was effective at stopping shots from the distance or in 1-on-1 situations and was gifted with good reaction. On the other hand, he slow in the movements, not very agile, had troubles with shots from short distances or headers, didn't have a powerful shot despite his strong built and his goal kicks often couldn't reach the half of the field.
