INFO:Tessema was a centre forward. He spent his entire career at Saint-George, scoring 318 goals in 365 matches from 1943 to 1958. He helped the team winning their first national championship in 1950 and holds the record of 43 goals out of the 47 scored in total by his team in a single season. He gaines 15 official caps for Ethiopia, scoring 3 times. After retiring, he coached Ethiopia, leading the team to win the historical 1962 African Cup.
Regarded as the first great player from Ethiopia and one of the country's greatest ever, Tessema was short but heavily built, incredibly prolific and consistent throughout the years. Considered as the "Puskas of Ethiopia", he was technically gifted, had good ball control, could deliver accurate passes and hypnotize the defenders with his dribbling. He very likely possessed good athletic skills and speed, considering that he used to practice cycling, short distance running and in addition even boxing.
