INFO:
Ticozzelli was a right back. Also a cyclist and a soldier in the First World War, he wasn't always a participant in the Italian Prima Divisione. He played 35 matches and scored 3 goals for Alessandria between 1914 and 1921. Then he spent three seasons at Spal, playing 66 games and scoring 6 times. His last club was Casale, where he played 77 matches, scoring 4 goals, from 1924 to 1931. He capped once for Italy in 1920. He took part to the Giro d'Italia wearing Casale's black jersey. Unfortunately, his lack of equipment led him to the last place and since the episode, the black shirt has been given to the last placed in an Italy Tour for many years.
Regarded as one of the best Italian right backs during the 1910s and 1920s, Ticozzelli was a tall and imposing player. He was the perfect sweeping defender, large to stop the strikers, fast to intercept the ball or recover it when he was cut off by a long pass, capable in the air to reach high balls. Moreover, he possessed good technique and an incredibly powerful shot: he used to shoot even from the midfield and scored the goal from the farthest ever distance at the time, directly from goal kick from 75 metres. Also, he took free kicks and occasionally penalties. Despite being a defender of the first two decades, he pushed forward many times to take advantage of his shooting ability or to trigger an offense by passing the ball to a forward. During his only match with Italy − won 9-4 against France − he showed lack of agility because he was dribbled several times in the first half, while he improved in the second one. The two faces of Ticozzelli were seen as well in the Italian championship, for example in a match between Alessandria and Genoa when, during the second half, he couldn't sweep the balls away properly, sending them always in corner.
