His career started in 1914 at Alessandria but his debut came in 1919. He left the team two year later after 35 appearances and 3 goals. He signed for Spal in 1921, playing 62 matches and scoring 6 goals in three seasons. His last team was Casale where he played from 1924 to 1931 for a total 77 games and 4 goals. He capped for Italy once in 1920. He missed many games and even some full seasons because he was also a professional road cyclist. Considered one of best Italian full-backs of the 1920s, Ticozzelli was an imposing defender, almost 190 cm tall, weighing over 90 kg and with 84 cm of thigh girth. He was the perfect defender: large to stop the strikers; fast at intercepting the ball or recovering it whenever he was cut off by a long pass; capable in the air to reach high balls. Furthermore, he possessed good technique and an incredibly powerful shot which he would even use to shoot from midfield. He set the record for distance from which a goal was scored when he did so directly from a 75 meters-long goal kick. Ticozzelli also took free kicks and occasional penalties. Despite his role and the period he played in, he pushed forward quite frequently, taking advantage of his shooting skill to target the opposing goal. Otherwise, he would defend the ball with his physique and technique before passing it to start the offense. It wasn't uncommon for him to commit fouls due to his physical game and hard tackling. Understandably, his huge physique didn't allow him to make smooth and agile movements, which could be seen in his only international match that Italy won 9-4 against France. In fact, Ticozzelli was dribbled numerous times during the first half. Although, his performance improved in the second part of the match. The imposing defender was a two-faced player in general. For example, he played an excellent first half during a 1919-20 Prima Categoria match between Alessandria and Genoa, won 2-1 by the Rossoblu, but had troubles sweeping the ball correctly in the second half, always sending it in corner.
