INFO:Piyapong is a former centre forward and secondary striker. His career began at Royal Thai Air Force in 1979. He scored 91 goals in 145 matches for them before joining South Korean team Lucky-Goldstar (later FC Seoul) in 1984. He became the first Thai to play in the South Korean league, which was probably the top one in Asia at the time. He scored 18 goals in 43 games and had a leading role in the 1985 K League winning season with 12 goals and 6 assists. In that season, he became top scorer, top assist-man and, of course, was included in the K League best XI. After leaving Lucky-Goldstar, he played for Malaysian team Pahan, scoring 70 goals in 61 matches from 1986 to 1989. He eventually came back to Thailand, playing again for Royal Thai Air Force and scoring 164 goals in 248 games from 1989 to 1997. He gained 100 caps for Thailand, scoring 70 goals ─ FIFA's official record is 33 caps and 15 goals.
Considered the greatest player in Thailand history, Piyapong was gifted with great skills. His abilities improved even more when he had the chance to play in South Korea, where football was understandably on higher level compared to Thailand. He was a prolific scorer who could also deliver accurate short passes at good speed. However, he preferred looking for the personal action thanks to his repertoire of tricks, which included sombrero and roulette skills. He was quick, had remarkable shot power and accuracy on both feet. He could score in many ways: first time, from difficult positions, with volleys and even rabona ─ he might be one of the first players to ever use it. Moreover, he possessed great jump and fine heading ability.
