Hatem is a central midfielder, who can also play as attacking, defensive and occasionally side midfielder. His career began in 2007 at Al-Arabi, where he made 81 appearances and scored 14 goals. He transferred to Al-Gharafa in 2015, playing 86 matches in four seasons, scoring 7 times. He's been playing for Al-Rayyan since 2019 and played 66 games so far, scoring 13 goals. He gained 95 caps for Qatar so far, scoring 11 times and winning the 2019 AFC Asian Cup, being included in the Team of the Tournament.
Hatem is a hardworking midfielder, who is very good at setting up the action and keeping the ball. He can dribble his opponents with good turns and short sprints or defend the ball while he waits for a teammate to approach him. He then delivers accurate short passes with either left or right foot even though he's a natural left-footed. Also capable of sending good and curled crosses, he's often in charge of free kicks and corners. Moreover, he's a threat from outside the box thanks to his good long range shots with either foot.
