Afif is a left winger or centre forward, who occasionally plays on the right flank. His professional career began in 2015 at Eupen. He was bought by Villarreal the following year, becoming the first Qatari in La Liga history. He played only once for el Submarino Amarillo in 2016, coming in as substitute. He was the loaned to Sporting de Gijón, Eupen and eventually Al-Sadd in 2018. Ultimately bought by the Qatar club in 2020, he played 107 matches for Al-Sadd so far, scoring 67 goals and assisting 54 times. He gained 81 caps for Qatar so far, scoring 23 goals and winning the 2019 AFC Asian Cup, assisting 11 times and being included in the Team of the Tournament. The same year, he was named Asian Footballer of the Year.
Regarded as one of the most promising and consistent Qatari players in recent years and arguably the best Qatari player at the moment, Afif is a superb attacking winger, who also helps in midfield and defence with lots of tracking back. One of the best assist-men in Qatar, he can deliver very accurate short passes, through passes and low lofted passes, showing also great ability with the outside and first time. Gifted with great speed particularly on short distance, very good ball control and excellent dribbling that he uses especially to converge to the center before eventually assist a teammate, he's a real threat for the opposing defences. In fact, his suddent bursts of speed often force the defenders to tackle him down and commit foul. He's also a prolific scorer, capable of shooting with either his natural right foot or the left.
