INFO:Altounian was a right winger and inside-right, capable of playing also as centre forward. He spent his entire career at Homenetmen from 1952 to 1973, winning three Lebanese Premier League titles in 1954-55, 1962-63, 1968-69 and becoming top scorer of the tournament in 1962-63 and 1966-67. He capped for Lebanon 18 times, scoring as much. 6 of his goals came in the 1963 Arab Cup, where he captained his national team to a third place.
One of the most prominent and greatest ever Lebanese players, Altounian was the striking force of Homenetmen and Lebanon national team throughout the 1950s and 1960s. When he first debuted in Homenetmen first team, he came in as substitute in the second half, scoring twice and providing an assist with a cross for the third goal. He loved entertaining the crowds with the best performance he could give. He had a good level of fitness thanks to his diet. He was distinguished mainly for leadership, speed, dribbling, technique and the ability to score remarkable goals by hitting the top corner from difficult positions. He enjoyed dribbling the defenders by raising the ball and making it go behind them before eventually running quickly towards the goal and scoring from different angles. He was initially deployed as inside forward, then as centre forward and finally as winger. He always showed his wonderful skills regardless of his position. He even got the best of strong defenders despite having a thin physique. Understandably, he didn't rely on roughness and strength but technique and quickness ─ his coach at Homenetmen Joseph Nelbandian considered Altounian the fastest player he ever had in his team. During an interview in 2011, Altounian told that he didn't remember any goalkeeper who kept a clean sheet when he faced him. He also recalled scoring a goal against legendary goalkeeper Abdulrahman Chebarro: because the keeper was saving all of his shots, he told him in a one-on-one situation that he was going to shoot at full force, convincing Chebarro to spread his legs a bit, but the striker then sent the ball between his legs with a soft touch.
