INFO:
Itani was a side-back on either side. He spent most of his career at Nejmeh, playing there from 1950 to 1959 and from 1965 to 1969. He played also for Racing Club Beirut from 1960 to 1965, winning the Lebanese Premier League in his last season at the club. He surprisingly became top scorer of the 1968-69 Premier League despite being a 39 year old defender. He capped for Lebanon in at least 11 occasions, scoring once and taking part to the 1963 Arab Cup, where Lebanon finished 3rd placed.
Probably the best side-back in Lebanon's history, Itani was an unconventional defender, accurate with both feet, known for his shooting ability, remarkable technique and agility. He was also a penalty specialist. He could control the ball in unique ways, stopping it with either foot or with his lower back. Even though he was a defender able at snatching the ball off the strikers, he often rushed forward at high speed. Far from being a team player though, he enjoyed dribbling his opponents, often going back to dribble them again only to amuse the crowd. He recalled in a 2011 interview a match against a Soviet team, where he constantly tricked the opposition's left winger to the point that the forward stopped trying to take the ball off Itani and the Soviet coach decided to substitute him. Very short-sized, Itani possessed though impressive leap that allowed him to reach high balls.
