Ismail is a former left-back. He played for several clubs in Lebanon, including Racing Club Beirut from 2008 to 2013 and Nejmeh in 2013-14. He played also in Iran for Zob Ahan from 2014 to 2016 but he wasn't given as many chances as his teammate Ali Hamam. He capped for Lebanon 69 times, scoring once.
Ismail was a defensive minded left-back, known for his experience and composure that aded confidence to his teammates. While he wasn't fast, he possessed fine dribbling. He could provide a teammate near him with a decent short pass but his pure ball distribution wasn't good. He had the ability to anticipate his opponents with tackles, close them the space and put himself between ball and opponent. He was also solid in the air. He was the kind of player who would keep doing his task even towards the end of the match, showing remarkable stamina and mentality. Moreover, he was a specialist in long throws.
