Campelli was a goalkeeper. He spent his entire career at Inter, making 179 matches from 1910 to 1925. A regular in the Nerazzurri's squad since he was young, he won the Italian championship in 1909-10 and 1919-20. He was called up for Italy 11 times. Inter's first great goalkeeper, it's said that Campelli was the inventor of the ball catching as apparently no one before him used to save the ball by blocking rather than deflecting it. He was a track and field player before becoming a goalkeeper and it's probably thanks to his past in that sport that he possessed great flexibility that allowed him to catch the ball with ease.
