INFO:
Brincat is a former side or central midfielder, very versatile and capable of playing in numerous other positions. His career started in 1986 at Ħamrun Spartans, where he made 105 league appearances in nine years, scoring 25 goals. He then played 47 matches for Floriana from 1995 to 1998 and 94 for Birkirkara from 1998 to 2002, scoring respectively 23 and 48 goals. He retired in 2007 after a five year stint at Sliema Wanderers, scoring 12 times in 87 games. He played for Malta 101 times, scoring 6 goals. He was named Maltese Player of the Year in 1993.
A short but talented player, technically skilled, capable of controlling and defending the ball, prone to often distribute it with short or long passes, fine in the tackle and anticipation. He moved everywhere in the field, forward and back, on the right and on the left. Brincat was initially deployed as defensive midfielder. As he could adapt himself in any role, he was asked to replace George Xuereb, who left Ħamrun Spartans in 1988, as sweeper and at the end of the 1988-89 season, he became one of the best libero in the league. John Buttigieg though was the first choice sweeper in the Maltese national team. Therefore, Brincat was deployed in the midfield, acting mainly on the sides or as central midfielder. He could play also as attacking midfielder or winger, positions where he showed his remarkable scoring ability. In the early 90s, Malta's coach wanted to take advantage of Brincat's fine man marking ability to stop Lajos Détári in a match against Hungary but the Maltese player got injured.
