Al-Huwaidi is a former centre forward. He spent the majority of his career at Al-Salmiya, where he played from 1991 to 1998, in 2000-01 and 2002-03, when he retired at 31. He played also at Al-Shabab in the United Arab Emirates, Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia and Al-Rayyan in Qatar. He capped for Kuwait 83 times, scoring 63 goals.
One of the most prominent Kuwaiti players of the 1990s, Al-Huwaidi was a prolific striker, capable with both feet and the head due to his tall figure that allowed him to win numerous balls in the air. His physique was also very strong. Therefore, he could resist to the charges from the defenders and keep the ball thanks to a nice technique. He was quite slow but he knew where he had to be in order to receive the ball and make a tap in, hit a header or deliver a pass. In fact, he very often moved outside the box to make remarkable passes forward to one of his teammates. Even though he scored an impressive number of goals, he also missed many goals in favourable positions.
