Omar is a former right-back or right side midfielder. His career began in 2006 at Al-Muharraq. He joined Swiss team Neuchâtel Xamax in 2009, playing 66 games in two seasons. He played also in Saudi Arabia and Qatar. He retired in 2020 after spending four more years at Al-Muharraq. He capped for Bahrain 85 times, scoring 4 goals.
Distinguished for his great speed, high offensive prowess, and solid technical skill, Omar was mostly effective in the attack as he could rush forward, receive the ball, dribble an opponent or distribute the ball. Furthermore, he possessed solid strength to resist the opposition's charges. His short passes were more than solid, but his crossing ability was often extremely poor. He would either guess a good long ball or send it totally far from his targeted teammate. He was a bit weak in the defence as he used to commit avoidable fouls, miss the timing of the intervention, or sweep the ball badly. However, he occasionally showed decent tackling and marking.
