Kumar is a former central midfielder, capable of playing as side midfielder or side-back. His career began in 2002 at Nadi. He then played for Ba before transferring to New Zealand in 2006. There, he spent two seasons at Waitakere United and one at Auckland City. After coming back to Fiji to play for Lautoka in 2009, he spent a few seasons in New Zealand's lower leagues and one more with Waitakere United in 2012-13. He capped for Fiji 22 times, scoring 3 goals. One of the most distinguished Fijian players of the 2000s, Kumar was a good left-footed midfielder, cunning, dynamic, energetic, gifted with a solid physique, and known for quality, understanding of the game, and fitness that he showed until the end of his career. He was instrumental in both clubs and national team.
