Sami is a former side midfielder. His career began in the 1970s at Labasa. He had his best time during this decade, as he was named Fiji Times Sportsman of the year in 1978, and capped for Fiji at least 10 times.
Considered at his time the most effective midfielder in the Fiji Islands, Sami was distinguished for his speed, soft touches and high number of amazing skills. He also possessed vision of the game and remarkable fitness which was one of the most important things for him. Furthermore, Sami was highly regarded for his contribution in midfield, leadership qualities and great effort that earned him the chance to captain his national team in a few occasions.
