INFO:Shin Yung-kyoo was a centre back. He spent his entire career at Moranbong, playing there since the 1960s. A mainstay in the North Korea national team for years, he took part to the 1966 FIFA World Cup as captain, and totally capped over 60 times.
One of the best defenders and arguably one of the overall best players in the North Korean squad, Shin Yung-kyoo distinguished himself for his ability to make the right decision in defence. Highly praised for his defensive skills, he was considered gifted with the potential to become a world class defender after his second World Cup match against Chile. On the other hand, he wasn't notably strong despite having a solid built physique. During the game against Soviet Union, he showed good positional sense, waiting for his opponent before tackling him successfully, or clearing a cross with a header following a nice jump. He was indeed the kind of defender who played with tenacity and enthusiasm to constantly sweep the ball away. Against Chile, he kept showing his excellent sliding tackles in addition to good anticipation and enough confidence to carry the ball into midfield after regaining possession. Although at the very beginning of the match, he even defended the ball with a roulette from the immediate pressing of Chilean striker Fouilloux right after the kick-off. He once took a right-footed free kick against Italy, sending the ball high but not far from the crossbar.
