INFO:Kang Bong-chil is a former left-back or left-half. He spent his career at 4.25 Sports Club. A member of the North Korea national team, he capped at least nearly 30 times, taking part to the 1966 FIFA World Cup, playing the first match against Soviet Union.
Originally a midfielder, he was deployed as left-back in his only appearance at the World Cup with the task of marking Soviet player Igor Chislenko. Kang Bong-chil tried his best, occasionally managing to make a successful sliding tackle. However, he suffered the winger who was faster and accurate in the dribbling, leading Kang to often miss the timing of the tackle or seemingly give up intervening when Chislenko was dribbling him. On the other hand, the North Korean defender showed solid positional sense whenever a cross was coming in the box, clearing several balls with his head following superb leaps.
