Ri Myong-guk is a former goalkeeper. He spent his entire career at Pyongyang S.C. from 2006 to 2019. He capped for North Korea 118 times, taking part to the 2010 FIFA World Cup. He made the most saves in the group stage of said competition. Considered the best goalkeeper in North Korea's history, Ri Myong-guk was distinguished mostly for his reflexes and positioning, although the latter wasn't always flawless. He covered his goal well when facing long range shots, was quick enough when making short sprints to come off his goal, and was solid one-on-one, occasionally using his feet if necessary. However, he sometimes showed glimpses of miscalculation, positioning himself far enough from his post to give his opponent an opening to score. He had good awareness during set pieces as he was confident enough to leave his goal and collect crosses and reject them with his punches. His weakest points were though his goalkeeping and ball handling skills as he used to reject the ball most of the times instead of blocking it even when the shot was anything but irresistible. He possessed a decent distribution, especially when delivering long goal kicks that weren't fast but always reached the other half of the field.
