Nam Song-chol is a former left-back, capable of playing as wing-back and centre back. He spent his entire career at April 25, playing there from 2003 to 2013. He capped for North Korea 51 times, scoring 2 goals and taking part to the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Though he wasn't a starter in the competition itself, playing only fifteen minutes against Portugal, he was a key player for most part of the qualifiers throughout 2008.
Nam Song-chol was a solid player who balanced his style of play between defence and attack. He covered well around and in his own area, blocking crosses with either feet or head, and taking the ball off his opponents. He possessed fine ball control and he liked joining the attack mostly to attempt the shot which he could with either foot. His ball distribution though wasn't very good as his passes and crosses were often inaccurate or easily intercepted. He's also remembered for having scored the initial equaliser against Japan with a poweful left-footed shot in a 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifying match that North Korea may have won.
