Pak Kwang-ryong is a centre forward, occasionally deployed as winger. His career began in 2007 in his native North Korea. He transferred to Basel in 2011 and became the first North Korea to play in a UEFA Champions League match. From 2013 to 2016, he was loaned to Bellinzona, Vaduz and Biel-Bienne. He was eventually sold to Lausanne-Sport in 2016. He last played for Austrian team St. Pölten from 2017 to 2020. He capped for North Korea 41 times, scoring 14 goals.
A tall and strong striker, Pak Kwang-ryong proved to be a key player for North Korea's forward line. He's notably effective inside and outside the box. He can a post player who can keep the ball, defend it with his physique and pass it to a teammate thanks to a solid ball distribution skill. He can do that also after moving outside the box, going even to midfield to take the ball and pass it forward. He's not very fast in short spaces but his pace is quite impressive in longer distance. Due to his height, he scored numerous headers. He has also fair ball control and technique. In addition, he scored some free kicks too.
