He started his career in the early 1950s at Al-Mogren. He then spent the majority of his career at Al-Hilal from 1953 to 1967. He was team captain from 1964 to 1966. He capped for Sudan many times from the late 1950s and throughout the 1960s, taking part to the African Cup of Nations in 1959 and 1963. He made at least 250 appearances including both club and national team. Often considered the greatest goalkeeper in Sudan's history ─ possibly alongside Hamid Biraima ─ Dudu was distinguished for his tall and strong physique, high fitness, flexibility, courage, speed, and the ability to save powerful shots. That may due to the fact that he practiced athletics, basketball, swimming and gymnastics other than football. Thanks to his brilliancy in the goalkeeping role, he earned several nicknames, most of them from the foreign press after he faced other countries. Among Dudu's greatest performances, one against Al-Merreikh in 1956 and one against Vasco da Gama in 1963 ─ Al-Hilal won 2-1 mainly thanks to the goalkeeper stopping plenty of dangerous shots ─ are especially remembered. However, he had great matches also against Syria, Kenya, Egyptian team Al-Ahly, Wiener SC, Budapest Honvéd, and clubs from Czech Republic, China, Soviet Union and Sweden among others. |
