INFO:Zaki was a centre back or sweeper and defensive midfielder. His career started in 1956 at Tuti SC. One year later, he transferred to Al-Hilal Omdurman, where he spent nearly the rest of his career as he left the team in 1971 after making around 160 appearances. He retired the following year after spending one season in Egypt at Al-Ahly. A member of Sudan national team from 1963 to 1970, he capped 53 times, taking part to the African Cup of Nations in 1963 to 1970, winning the latter as captain (he filled the role from 1968 to 1971).
Former Al-Hilal's captain and one of the pillars of Sudan national team in their golden era, Zaki used to wear the jersey n°5 in a defensive role and the n°6 when deployed in midfield. Emerging as talented and skilled since young age, he established himself as the tall, strong defensive rock of both Al-Hilal and the national team, ensuring confidence and solidity in his team with his great leadership and will to win. He was feared by his opponents as he broke most attacks with constant energy and dynamism. Other than being effective in the defence, he was the brain in midfield as he directed the play well with accuracy, technique and tactical intelligence. He played a major role in matches against foreign teams like Crvena Zvezda, Vasco da Gama, Al-Ahly, Sarejevo, Baník Ostrava, Ismaily, Zamalek, teams from Soviet Union, Congo, Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, the East Germany national team and, of course, Ghana in the 1970 African Cup of Nations final.
