He grew up at Al-Tadamon but debuted professionally in 1977 with Al-Merrikh where he spent his entire career until his retirement in 1990, winning the 1986 CECAFA Club Championship and always wearing the jersey n°14. Former captain of both club and Sudan national team, he capped many times throughout the 1980s, scoring at least 3 goals. He also took part to a friendly match against Liverpool that ended with a 1-1 draw. One of the most prominent Sudanese players of the 1980s, El-Din was known for his skillful play, creativity, accurate passing, solid strength and high fitness. While he mostly played in the playmaker position either in center of the field or closer to the forward line, he was considered a jolly because he could be deployed in every other position including goalkeeper if necessary. He was able of doing whatever he wanted with the ball thanks to his superior ability, targeting the net with his accurate shots or delivering accurate crosses that reached perfectly the head of a striker who was waiting inside the box. He often played the ball first time and his passes always deceived the opposition's defenders. Furthermore, he was a model of sportsmanship as he never received a red card but only one yellow card. |
