Khalil Ghanim is a former centre-back, sweeper or right-back, althouh he started his career at striker. He spent his entire career at Al-Khaleej (now Khor Fakkan) from 1984 to 1994. He capped for the United Arab Emirates at least 35 times, scoring 6 goals and taking part to the 1990 FIFA World Cup.
Arguably the best defenders in the Emirates' history, Khalil Ghanim was hard, capable in the back line, effective in a zonal defense system. He was confident in his own abilities and always performed with strength and courage. As he could deal with the opposition's strikers well and cleverly, he was considered a fox defender. Surprisingly, he was also a remarkable scorer. He was top scorer of the 1986-87 Emirati league due to his ability to score difficult goals. He was also excellent in the air thanks to his outstanding jump the earned him the nickname "the Flying defender". Initially a striker, he was moved to the defender position to take advantage of his strong build and quick attack.
