Matar is a winger, mostly on the left, and attacking midfielder who can also play as side midfielder and centre forward. He has spent almost his entire career at Al Wahda where he made 576 appearances and scored 130 goals so far from 2001 up to now. He was loaned briefly at Qatari team Al-Sadd in 2009. He capped for the United Arab Emirates 136 times, scoring 36 goals.
One of the best Emirati players of the 2000s and 2010s, Matar has been a fantastic scorer and even more a player capable of creating numerous scoring chances thanks to remarkable passing and crossing abilities. In fact, he's often been the main corner taker. His great speed on the ball, especially in tight spaces, notable ball control and superb dribbling have made him a difficult player for the opposition's defenders to stop. But given that he doesn't have a strong physique, he's not hard to tackle down, although the action often results in a foul. Able at scoring in many ways and often difficult ones, Matar can deliver powerful strikes with either foot, shoot first time from any position inside or around the penalty area. He occasionally scored from penalty, free kick and even corner as he can give the ball great effect.
