Ghouloum is a former left side midfielder who could also play as left-back. He spent his entire career at Sharjah FC from 1988 to 2002. He capped for the United Arab Emirates 63 times, scoring 7 or 8 goals and taking part to the 1990 FIFA World Cup.
Considered one of the most consistent and defensively committed players in the Emirati team of the early 1990s, Ghouloum was distinguished by his excellent effort that influenced his teammates. His fighting style of play was appreciated by Carlos Alberto Parreira and Mário Zagallo during their spells as Emirates coach. Ghouloum possessed fine technical skill but he wasn't among the quickest players in the Emirati team nor he was a great scorer. Anyways, his main tasks were to create scoring chances with his passing ability and to support the back-line in stopping the opposition's attacks by controlling his flank.
