INFO:
Iswadi was an attacking midfielder and right-half who could also play as right-back and sweeper. His career started in 1966 at Persija Jakarta where he played until his retirement in 1980. However, he also played briefly for IM Jakarta in 1973-74 and PSPS Pekanburu in 1980. Furthermore, he became the first Indonesian to play for a foreign club when he was loaned to Australian team Western Suburbs in 1974-75. He scored over 100 goals in his club career. An Indonesia international from 1968 to 1980, he capped 97 times, scored 55 goals and was team captain from 1970 to 1980.
Considered one of the most talented players in Indonesia's football history, Iswadi was one of the fastest and most feared players in Asia for his great intelligence, hard work and tenacity. Other than having extraordinaty speed and agility, he also possessed excellent vision, good technique, dribbling and scoring skills. He was sharp in one-on-one situation as he would use his speed to get past an opponent when he was thought to be opting for a pass, and pass the ball towards the box or shoot on goal when it looked like he was going to dribble. Despite his short physique, Iswadi dominated the midfield and was always close to the ball when he wasn't in possession of it. His determination and competitiveness made him do everything he could to help his team win to the point that he sometimes looked crazy on the field. He had difficulties in adapting in the Australian league because the players had a different leg reach in comparison to Indonesian players. Therefore, his passes were often too short and could harm his teammates. In fact, he could send accurate passes from a distance not higher than 25 meters. Iswadi had his best performances against Thailand and Malaysia at the 1969 Merdeka Tournament where he was instrumental in his team's final win, the 1970 Asian Games where he led Indonesia to a silver medal, friendlies against Dinamo Moscow in 1970 and Santos in 1972.
