Pattinasarany was a defensive midfielder who could also play as sweeper and attacking midfielder. His career started at PSM Makassar where he played from 1968 to 1978. He then transferred to Warna Agung where he remained until his retirement in 1982. The same year he was included in the Asian All Stars. He capped for Indonesia 31 times, scoring 6 goals. He was team captain for several years.
One of the most feared midfielders in Southeast Asia during the 1970s, Pattinasarany was distinguished by his tough and yet elegant style of play made of accurate and fast passes either short or long. He was calm, tactically intelligent, and in possession of an above average vision. He was the main playmaker who organised the attacks for his teammates who always looked forward to his passes. Pattinasarany was also able in taking the ball off his opponents in a subtle way without injuring them. His agility and responsiveness in taking the ball earned him the nickname "Field Tiger". He didn't hesitate to drop further back to help the defensive line in critical situations. In addition, he's considered one of the best set piece takers in Indonesia's history thanks to his long range shots.
