He has spent his entire career at Kaizer Chiefs where he's playing since 2004. He has made 347 appearances so far for the South African club. He capped for the South Africa national team 91 times. Widely considered the greatest goalkeeper South Africa has ever produced and one of the greteast in African football history, Khune has distinguished himself for his excellent reflexes, above average diving skills, and high ability to stop close range shots and free kicks. An able penalty saver, he earned fame in his country when he stopped three penalties from Mamelodi Sundown's Esrom Nyandoro and Peter Ndlovu in the 2007 Telkom Knockout final. He then extended his fame internationally after making a great save on David Villa's penalty followed by a double save during the 2009 Confederations Cup group stage match against Spain. Khune even performed the famous René Higuita's scorpion kick save in a league game win over Mpumalanga Black Aces in 2015, showing impressive athleticism. Technically gifted, Khune is also known for his solid footwork with both feet and accurate ball distribution as he can take pressure off his back-line and create attacking opportunities for his forwards thanks to accurate and usually fast goal kicks and punts. Strong and fast when coming off his goal, he's good at intercepting high crosses and dangerous short passes directed to an opponent. Spoiler: show |
