Hammadi Agrebi was a central or attacking midfielder who could also play as side midfielder. He spent the majority of his career at Sfaxien where he played from 1970 to 1979 and 1981 to 1986, making 218 appearances and scoring 78 goals. He also played for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia in 1979-80 and Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates in 1980-81. He capped for Tunisia 35 times, scoring 4 goals. He was part of the 1978 FIFA World Cup squad.
One of the greatest ever Tunisian players, Agrebi had to deal with a bad injury to his spine in 1967 that followed an ankle injury. He was almost forced to end his football career at a very young age. He managed to recover and became a mainstay in Sfaxien's and Tunisia's teams with his jersey n°8. A highly technically gifted attacking midfielder, Agrebi was an excellent playmaker who dictated the rhythm of the match with his teammate Tarak Dhiab. He could pass the ball short or cross it with the same efficiency, starting numerous attacks and providing many assists. He was agile, quite fast on the ball and a superb dribbler who could get past one or two opponents with ease. Despite being primarily a playmaker, he scored a good number of goals as he often attempted to score from longer range, showing remarkable shot technique and power in his foot, or made late runs to the opposition's box, often surprising the defenders. Accurate with both feet though a natural right-footed, Agrebi was a very good set piece taker who took both free kicks and corner kicks and would occasionally even try to score from direct corner given that he could use the outside of the foot well.
