Akid was a centre-forward. He spent almost his entire career at Sfaxien where he played from 1967 to 1978, scoring 126 goals in 307 appearances. He transferred to Saudi Arabia in 1978 as he signed for Al-Riyadh SC. He tragically died one year later. While the official version was that the player was struck by a lightning during a training session, an autopsy carried over three decades later revelated that he was shot and Akid's son confirmed that the Crown prince was involved in the assassination. Akid capped for Tunisia 52 times, scored 15 goals and took part to the 1978 FIFA World Cup.
One of Tunisia's most iconic strikers, Akid was particularly known for his excellent jump and great headers that allowed him to score plenty of goals and provide assists too. One of his headers was crucial in the 4-1 win against Egypt that qualified Tunisia to the 1978 World Cup. On the other hand, Akid wasn't as gifted with his feet as he was with the head. He attempted the shot with his natural left foot when possible but both accuracy and technique weren't the best. He also didn't have a good close control. His overall attacking style of play was the one of a typical in-box striker. In reality, he moved a lot outside the box, supporting the rest of the attacking line with short pass exchanges, fighting for the ball and drawing defenders towards him. He was occasionally chosen as free kick taker.
