INFO:
Sofoluwe was a side-back and centre-back, originally on the left when playing on the flank but used regularly on both. His career started in 1982 at Shooting Stars. He then played for Abiola Babes between 1984 and 1987, Bridge Boys (back then called Julius Berger FC) between 1988 and 1998, and Gateway United in 1999-2000. He capped for Nigeria 42 times between 1983 and 1988, scoring 1 goal.
A versatile defender, Sofoluwe debuted in the national team when he was only 16 and quickly became a regular starter. He was an elegant, cool, calm and hardworking defender who never did the unnecessary nor attempted a risky tackle, saving it for when it really mattered. He was short and not physically strong, but didn't fear running down the flank to join the attack, showing great speed on the distance and remarkable ball distribution, alternating between passes and crosses regularly. He defended effortlessly with intelligent anticipation and positional sense. He would immediately fight on the ball if he lost it due to his not very good ball control. Therefore, he wasn't easy to dribble or beat with a burst of pace. His defensive abilities made him a valid asset also as a centre-back, position that forced him to challange taller and more powerful opponents.
