INFO:
Doeur Sokhom was a centre-forward or secondary striker. According to Kampuchea Sports archives, he played for Phnom Penh Municipality FC from 1968 to 1975 (like many Cambodian national team players of the time) and scored 22 goals in the 1971 Cambodian League. Thai newspaper Siam Rath mentions a short spell at Rajpracha FC in 1973. He represented the Cambodia national team at the 1972 Asian Cup, scoring 3 goals (other sources report 4 goals) against South Korea, Kuwait and Iran respectively. He scored at least 15 goals in total for Cambodia between 1970 and 1974. He allegedly passed away in 1975 at age 37.
Sokhom was a charismatic player described by the Football Asia magazine in 1973 as an uncommon striker in Cambodia due to his tendency to drop deep and create space for the wingers (similar to a modern falso nueve). Thai magazine Rajdamnern Stadium highlighted his impressive stamina as he covered around 12 km of ground in the 1972 Asian Cup match against Kuwait. A natural left-footed, the Cambodian sports journal Kampuchea Thmey mentioned his razor-left foot in a 1971 article while Koh Santepheap noted that the vast majority of his shots in the match against Kuwait were left-footed. To reinforce this detail is the fact that local Phnom Penh sources record only 2 goals scored with the right foot. Siam Rath also described him as a free kick specialist in a 1972 article, mentioning his banana-shot technique and bending shots that Sokhom could send over the wall with unusual spin. The Bangkok Post, also in 1972, underlined his curving free kicks apart from his technical skills in match reports. Despite being around 172 cm tall, according to a 1971 Nokorbal News article, he was a threat in the air thanks to his excellent vertical leap that earned him 5 header goals in the 1971 league season.
