Bolasie is a side midfielder or winger who can play on both sides. His career started in 2006 in England where he spent most of his career. He played for Hillingdon Borough in his first year, then moved to Maltese club Floriana for the 2007-08 season, and returned to England when he signed for Plymouth Argyle. Between 2008 and 2012 he played also for Rushden & Diamonds, Barnet, and Bristol City. He eventually had his best time at Crystal Palace: he made 144 appearances and scored 13 goals for the team between 2012 and 2016. Afterwards, he played for Everton, Aston Villa, Anderlecht, Sporting CP, Middlesbrough, Çaykur Rizespor, Swansea City, Criciúma, and Cruzeiro. He signed for Chapecoense in 2026. He capped for DR Congo 50 times between 2013 and 2022, scoring 9 goals.
Bolasie proved to be a very good player during his peak at Crystal Palace, showing great pace despite a tall and muscular frame. Dribbling and passing skills were two of his best qualities. He sometimes preferred challenging one opponent too many instead of providing a pass to a teammate, and his movements on the ball were often predictable though fast. His crosses were powerful but not always accurate. His high accuracy on both feet allowed him to be effective on either flank and gave his team different line-up options. His shots were decent, packed with good power, and could trouble the opposing goalkeeper. However, Bolasie's main job was to provide chances. In fact, even though he was occasionally deployed as centre-forward, he would always prefer moving outside the box. He could also be decent in the air, especially thanks to a good jump. His contribution to the defensive phase was noteworthy too as he could be seen trying to recover the ball or supporting his team in his own half.
