INFO:
Oronge was a defensive or central midfielder who usually wore the jersey n°6. Active during the 1950s and 1960s, he played primarily for Luo Union FC. He represented Kenya from 1957 to 1965, earning at least 26 caps and scoring 1 goal. He was the national team captain from 1957 to 1959 and led Kenya to winning the 1958 Gossage Cup (predecessor competition to the CECAFA Cup). A player-coach in the late stage of his career, he filled this role for Kenya in 1963 and 1964 until he decided to abandon the team before a match against Ghana without even showing himself: Kenya eventually lost that match 13-2. After his retirement, he became one of the founders of Kisumu Hotstars FC.
Considered an excellent linkman and playmaker, Orenge was known for his mechanical playing style that allowed him to dominate the midfield. He was praised for his ability to support and reinforce the back-line thanks to his exhausting and continuous work of collecting then carrying the ball from defence to attack. He was nicknamed "Razor" for his tough tackling and incredibly powerful shots. Orenge also troubled the opposing defences with his tireless off-the-ball runs that he used to drag defenders away and create space for his teammates in attack. The midfielders was also gifted in controlling the ball and providing accurate passes. His understanding with his strikers was so good that he knew how and where to send the ball even before a teammate made his run.
