INFO:Thigo was a central or attacking midfielder who wore the jersey n°6, 8 and 13, according to different sources. His career started in 1967 at Kisumu Hot Stars where he played until 1969. He then spent the rest of his career at Gor Mahia from 1970 to 1981, scoring 88 goals and leading the team to two league titles in 1976 and 1979. In 1979, he also helped the team reach the Cup Winners' Cup final, although Gor Mahia lost 8-0 to Canon Yaoundé. Thigo was often the captain of the team. Representing the Kenya national team from 1968 to 1979, he scored 11 goals in 81 or 86 caps, also taking part to the 1972 Africa Cup of Nations. He was the team's vice-captain during the 1975 East and Central Africa Challenge Cup, held in Zambia and won by Kenya. He passed away on May 9, 2026 at the age of 77, though other sources claim he was 74 which would make his birth year 1952 instead of 1949.
Considered one of the best midfielders in Kenya's history, Thigo was a leader, a maestro and a general who conducted the midfield with his football brain and elite ball distribution. His passes, assists and quick thinking were inevitable when he was in a match. He could send a 40-yard diagonal pass or break the defensive line with a 5-yard through pass, creating chances from a deep position or providing the final pass. His free kicks were like a symphony and most of them ended in the net with precision rather than power, sometimes preferring to send a high ball towards a running teammate. His leadership was so good that he took the player-coach role in certain seasons like the successful 1976 one. Thigo had several nicknames but the most common was "the 90-Minute Man" due to his consistency, remarkable stamina and boundless energy because of which he was rarely substituted. And his influence on other players was terrific as he could change the tempo and rhythm of a game by himself, especially with his first touches. In conclusion, he established himself as Gor Mahia's dominant central midfielder, praised for his game control, vision, and exceptional physical endurance. Gor Mahia's patron Eliud Owalo described Thigo as « the finest attacking midfielder of his generation; his elegant style of play and ability to dictate matches made him a darling to football fans across the country ».
